Layered topological crystalline insulators

Web26 okt. 2024 · 1 Introduction. Topological insulators (TIs) are a class of materials that is insulating in the bulk and conducting at the surface. [] They are known for the protection of their topological surface state against backscattering by time-reversal symmetry (TRS), full spin-polarization, very high carrier mobility, and low energy dissipation. WebTopological crystalline insulators are new states of matter in which the topological nature of electronic structures arises from crystal symmetries. Here we predict the first material realization of topological crystalline insulator in the semiconductor SnTe by identifying its non-zero topological index.

Web24 apr. 2024 · Topological insulators (TI) are a new class of materials with promising spintronic applications. They behave as an insulator in their bulk interior while possessing metallic surfaces, thereby permitting charges to move only on their surfaces. In the bulk, TIs have an energy gap separating the conduction and valance bands, similar to an insulator. Web22 mei 2024 · Rotational-symmetry-protected topological crystalline insulators (TCIs) are expected to host unique boundary modes, in that the surface normal to the rotational axis can feature surface states with ‘unpinned’ Dirac points, which are not constrained to lie on high symmetry points or lines, but can lie at any general k point in the Brillouin zone.
